Moreover, literature was regarded as a means of social transformation, underscoring its role in societal advancement. In the period following the Treaty of Trianon, the Hungarian people's national and social advancement was a primary concern.<\/p><p>The fact that many of the members of the new group came from a peasant background was not the primary factor in bringing the folk to the fore. Instead, it emerged as a response to the necessity to identify novel solutions to enduring inquiries. A seminal insight was Dezs\u0151 Szab\u00f3's notion that the bourgeoisie and the proletariat had discredited themselves and lost their credibility in the post-World War I revolutions, whereas the peasantry had not. Consequently, Szab\u00f3 theorized that national renewal could be linked to the peasantry. The significance of the peasant problem can be elucidated by the fact that the agrarian question constituted the most important issue of the country, given that more than half of the population worked in agriculture between the two world wars.<\/p><p>It was this sense of mission that brought together authors who were remarkably diverse in their aesthetic orientations. In light of this objective, re-evaluation of our history and literary tradition was initiated. In this spirit, they explored hitherto unknown regions of Hungarian life in their works.<\/p><p>They sought to turn toward the people not symbolically, but practically. The concept of sociography emerged as a result of this practical turn toward the people. Consequently, sociography evolved into a structured program, signifying a vocation dedicated to serving the interests of the populace and the broader national agenda.<\/p><p>Folk writers organized the March Front and the Sz\u00e1rsz\u00f3 conferences. In opposition to fascism and communism, they wanted to empower the Hungarian people to chart their own course.
